Based on journal entries from 34 years ago after I learned that I was the de facto bouncer where I was moonlighting, while growing increasingly annoyed with the bar’s owner, and stealing moments to scribble funny things in the spiral notebook I hid behind the bar. (None of the names have been changed to protect those whose names I remember, because maybe sometime when they Google themselves or the bar they’ll find a laugh here, or maybe something better.)
I liked the story. I have been in bars where brawls began. I never stuck around to see how the fight ended. This time I got to safely stick around.
